The ADS Blog

Kindness Works.

Ever since I realized it was World Kindness Day, I started looking for opportunities to be kind to people. More than usual. Ironically they both ended up being acts of business kindness. (1) A guy at The Gathering Spot was desperately looking for anyone who might have any kind of communications / English background. What he was … Continue reading Kindness Works.

What’s your ONE thing? [ Book Review: “The ONE Thing” ]

When's the last time you truly sat down and thought about your biggest, craziest, wildest dreams? If you had to picture it, could you imagine how those insanely humongous dreams could actually break down to actionable tasks and goals? Can you see what your path to those dreams looks like 5 years out, 1 year out, … Continue reading What’s your ONE thing? [ Book Review: “The ONE Thing” ]

So ADS Begins: 24 Things I learned in Year One as an Entrepreneur

Accidental Entrepreneurship. That's exactly what I think of when I consider where I was one year ago today. I never thought I would even think of doing this until I was 40 (although, ironically, I'm not so far from that now!). In my 20s, I often thought to myself that by the time I'm 40 … Continue reading So ADS Begins: 24 Things I learned in Year One as an Entrepreneur

The Wrong Donations – Some Tough Words on Disaster Relief

ABOUT HURRICANE DONATIONS: If you’re going to send donations for any of the hurricane relief efforts,  please DON’T send unuseful things like coats, sweaters, lingerie, soiled undergarments and prom dresses. Emptying your drawers and sending them to TX does not help, it HINDERS. Scroll through to the bottom of this article to find out the things that can help, and if you’re in ATL, check out the United Way of Greater Atlanta page for the (smart) efforts happening here. Please and thank you. #Harvey #HarveyRelief

My Best Laid Plans

I need to make a statement. I want to say it as kindly and gently as possible, but this message really needs to get out there. It’s important. Please hear me with as much grace as you can, because I mean it with all love and gentleness.

My children and I spent hours yesterday sorting the donations that are pouring in. That picture is the mountain we were faced with, and it was still coming. We’re not the only ones. Hundreds (thousands?) of volunteers all across our state are doing the same exact thing. Why? Because your hearts are in theright place. That’s why.

I want to make that abundantly clear. It is beautifully apparent that you are thinking about us and that you want to help us figure this thing out. You are doing anything you can, and that has brought such profound joy to our hearts. I personally…

Yes, leopard - and apparently any kind of animal print - is a neutral. The colors - tans, browns, blacks - are all neutrals. Zebra is a neutral. Snakeskin. Top 5 PR Tips that WORK (from one of journalism’s finest)

As entrepreneurs, everyone wants exposure for their business. Why? Because good exposure positively increases brand awareness. PR is a great way to do that “for free” so to speak – unlike traditional advertising which costs (print, digital, outdoor advertising on billboards, radio and TV commercials, etc.). Note: PR technically isn’t always “free” as many of … Continue reading Top 5 PR Tips that WORK (from one of journalism’s finest)

Do Something That Matters Today: a Productivity Tip I LOVE.

We LOVE these productivity tips. A million people have them, but this one really works. Simple. Doable. Good stuff all day. Try it!

Just exploring life

You’ve heard it all before and that’s because it’s true – we often get far too caught up in “busy work” and it often feels like we’re doing so much because we’re so busy. Truthfully, when we think about it (and we already know this): that’s often not the case. So how do we get to the things that matter? Here’s a tip I heard the other week that I’m trying and love:

Tonight, before you go to bed, think about your list of “to-do” items (yes, that ever-growing list with no end *shakes fist*). When you think about that list, think of 3 important things you can do tomorrow. Those 3 important things should be something that obviously matters, where you can say to yourself: “If I get these 3 things done today, I can feel good about my day – like I really got something done that…
